On Thursday 31st March at 7pm, the Council of Christians and Jews (www.ccj.org.uk) will be joined by Archbishop Nikitas of Thyateira and Great Britain, Daniel Greenbery CB, and Esther Raffell from René Cassin, for a zoom seminar to highlight the issue of modern slavery and human trafficking. Archbishop Nikitas is coordinator of the Patriarchal task force on human trafficking and modern slavery, and author of the recent booklet Protecting the Vulnerable: Addressing the Sin of Human Trafficking and Modern Slavery. Daniel Greenberg CB is a barrister, parliamentary counsel, and writer. He is a regular contributor to the BBC’s ‘Thought for the Day’, most recently on 23rd March where he highlighted the persecution of the Uyghur Muslims (you can listen to this here: BBC Radio 4 – Thought for the Day, Daniel Greenberg). Esther Raffell is Campaigns Officer for modern slavery, immigration detention and hate speech at René Cassin; a charity working to promote and protect universal human rights, drawing on Jewish experience and values. She will share some practical ways that faith communities can look out for signs of modern slavery, and combat hostile environments. Together we will think about how Jews, Christians, and all who care about these issues, can stand together for the sake of the most vulnerable.
